Exciting news, Clandestina family! We have joined the White Sustainable Milan 2021 next to The Canvas, powered by Querencia Studio, from this Saturday to the 21st of June, during Milan Men's Fashion Week.
The Canvas launches a Pop-Up at PELLUX, Piazza S. Fedele, Milan, which brings together outstanding sustainable fashion brands like, Adiff, Foxylab, Apa, Bring, Vustra, BrownmilL, among others. The Pop-up will be hold for three days, offering brands the opportunity to display and sell their products to WSM attendees as well as local and international visitors.
During the WSM 2021, we present unique pieces such as the 3XL bags, extra-large items which belongs to the brand’s 2020 collection Sport Glories, as well as our “Carteritas” Recycled Nylon Pouches, manufactured in our Havana’s workshop. All items are made of recycled nylon sacks founded in city local markets, that were previously used either for coffee, rice, sugar, or postal service.
We have worked alongside the US brand The Canvas since 2019, which is a mandatory reference within the sustainable fashion scope in the United States. Clandestina expanded globally through a partnership agreement with The Canvas, powered by Querencia Studio, with the opening of a permanent corner at Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn two years ago, which last March we extended to Bowery with the launching of our new collection “No winter island”.
Clandestina’s Co-founder and Creative Director, Idania del Rio, explains that: “Repurposed Nylon bags, denim, and t-shirts make our Sports Glories top items. This is not a collection for athletics but a statement of how you must be ready to run the race for your daily life. Soviet cars bowling shirts, shiny gender fluid boxing robes, prepare us for a game where expectations and reality collide like in the Olympic games. This is our team, team Cuba.”
WSM 2021 opens new scenarios in the trade-fair panorama through a calendar which includes events, talk shows, workshops and engagement activities for the visitors. The event is AAA - All Access Area - accessible for free to a selected audience (through online subscription) and insiders. It promotes an eco-friendly forward- looking vision while it generates unique opportunities for a direct dialogue among street, sports and fashion brands and their communities.
That´s why we have taken that irrepressible energy of the new Cuba to Milan. That celebration of the Cuban heritage: humor, grit, and a ‘resolver’ way of living. Because, as Idania del Rio, mentions: “Being sustainable is not a choice for us. Sustainability is Cubans’ lifestyle, it's in our DNA. We recycle because we can´t afford to waste anything. We lack resources, our industry is outdated, we don’t have economic infrastructure to support large scale productions… That’s precisely why we work with whatever we find. We put that “resolver” way of life of the island into all we do. That innate capacity of finding a solution (crazy as it could be) to any problem and making the most out of everything.”
