Rubber Nails

A unique artwork by Idania del Río

“Nails are the most natural and primary weapon we have. Extending and decorating them is both beautiful and powerful. I compare it to the moment a warrior prepares for battle. This battle is against patriarchy.”

Artwork

This piece honors the strength of women: those who stay, those who leave, and those who keep moving forward despite uncertainty.

Across Cuba and beyond, women hold families, communities, and dreams together while navigating economic hardship, separation, displacement, and, too often, fear and persecution. Their resilience is often quiet, but it is extraordinary.

This project comes at a time when many Cuban women are facing extraordinary challenges, both on the island and abroad, and we're hoping to amplify their stories through this auction while supporting independent creation.
